The Island Center for the Arts

The Island Center for the Arts is a Cooperating Institution of Massachusetts College of Art and Design and a non-profit educational institute offering Study Abroad Art Programs in Greece on the beautiful island of Skopelos. Established in 1988 by Tom and Isabel Dempsey, the Island Center for the Arts offers university level art courses, workshops and classes in Painting, Mixed Media, Fiber Arts, Printmaking, Book Arts, Teacher’s Seminars and Greek Culture.

At the Island Center, you’ll receive individualized instruction in small classes with experienced professors and instructors. We motivate our students to do their very best work, while the stunning visual surroundings and cultural contrasts provide inspiration for artistic exploration. Once you’ve experienced an Island Center program you’ll understand why so many of our students come again to continue exploring the paths they have discovered in Greece and Skopelos – and all return home with a renewed sense of creativity.

It was a fabulous experience! It exceeded all my expectations. Our instructor was available and supportive whenever we needed him and his enthusiasm was a great motivator. The cultural workshops were great. Lots of interesting info to frame the entire experience. Field trips were wonderful – Athens steeped in history, incredible sites and Skopelos -white, brilliant color, blues of the Aegean and exquisite village architecture. Our apartment was so comfortable and the exquisite views of the Aegean were a priceless perk!
